How will portfolios be used in the Masters program?

The Master of Education program is carefully sequenced and integrated, designed to support you in the development of competencies that are in high demand within your field.

The portfolio is the place where you gather work from each course and review your development in relationship to these competencies.  In this way, the curriculum challenges you to put theory into practice.

The portfolio is a space for you to document your learning from each course and review your progress in the program as a whole.  It provides you with a perspective broader perspective on your learning.

Using the metaphor of a camera, when you are learning in one course you are zoomed in on one area to get a detailed view of a topic.  When you are learning within your ePortfolio you are zoomed out, seeing your work from each course within your larger landscape of learning.

Each course in the Masters program has a designated signature assignment that you will be expected to add to your portfolio.  The signature assignment is a professional piece of work that demonstrates your development in relationship to program and/or concentration competencies.  It's an artifact or piece of evidence that makes your learning visible to yourself and to others.  Adding this piece of work to your portfolio is a requirement that will factor into each course grade.

In some concentrations you will do additional work within your portfolios, such as give and receive feedback, think strategically about your personal and professional development pathway, write reflective passages to introduce your work, or document experiential learning that you undertake in a workplace setting.
