What is a Portfolio Program?

How does it differ from other types of degrees?

Traditional programs culminate in the completion of a thesis or qualifying exam. A portfolio program culminates in the creation of a portfolio of work that demonstrates the graduate's capabilities.

You will develop your ePortfolio by saving and reviewing "signature" work samples from each course, reviewing your development throughout the program, and polishing it during your capstone course.  By the time you graduate you will be able to provide others with evidence of your professional capabilities, including current and prospective employers, and be able to articulate your accomplishments.

Some concentrations also integrate ePortfolio use across the curriculum for the purpose learning improvement, including self-assessment, peer/faculty feedback, and the documentation of experiential work with organizations related to their field of study. See the "Program & Concentrations" section of this site for additional information on the ePortfolio component in each concentration.

The ePortfolio component of the Masters Program contributes to the distinctiveness of your degree and aligns with Northeastern’s longstanding reputation for workplace-based experiential learning.  The portfolio provides a place for you to gather and examine coursework exemplars showing how you used, or can use, program-based learning in practice.
