My name is Nischeena Charles (NI-shee-nuh CHARRLZ) and welcome to my portfolio! In 2015, I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with an English minor from Suffolk University in Boston, MA. I am the second person in my family to graduate from college. Further, I am the first person in my family to obtain a Master's degree before the age of 25.
I enjoy my experience in higher education. Exploring the higher education system as an employee has opened my eyes to the many underlying issues and controversies that impact higher education today.
When I joined the Master of Education (M.Ed.) program at Northeastern, I grew more, and more, passionate about promoting student success. I am primarily interested in promoting the success of first-generation college students with immigrant parents, due to both my personal experience as a first-generation college student and the fact that first-generation college students need more support, as this student population is characteristic of not persisting in college. My other areas of interest include college readiness and institutional diversity and inclusion.
As you explore my portfolio, you will see my growth as a higher education professional and how my knowledge and skills contribute to my current work and may inform my future work in higher education administration.
