Chamberlain University offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing as well as the Master of Science in Nursing through an online format.  Sam recently completed her BSN from Chamberlain and had approximately two months off before beginning work on her MSN.  All students must possess a BSN as an admission requirement for the MSN.  Sam is enrolled in the Nurse Executive Specialty Track, one of five options from Chamberlain.  The MSN program is two years in length, with 200 hours of practicum Nurse Executive Concluding Graduate Experience, culminating her experience.  Sam's first course is a core course, common to all tracks, and is Foundational Concepts & Applications.  The course is eight weeks long and she has fifteen cohorts in this inital offering and only registered students may access the course material.

The course is structured into weekly modules, with readings and related assignments.  Collaboration Cafe, the platform's discussion area, is assigned weekly and requires an initial post and two peer responses on a day different from the originial post.  This requires the students to login multiple times throughout the week and facilitates a more in-depth discussion.  Any responses to the original post must receive a reply.  Attached is a copy of the Collaboration Cafe Guidelines and Grading Rubric here: Collaboration Cafe Guidelines and Rubric.pdf

To access the course, Sam must login to the University's Learning Management System:

She then must click on her assigned course, and that takes her to the course dashboard:

To complete the weekly Collaboration Cafe, Sam clicked on the Discussion tab under the current week of the course.  This is where she can see the topic for discussion:

If a paper or some other assignment were to be completed that week, the instructor would provide a voice-narrated slideshow with instructions for that assignment (under the slideshow is a link to a transcript of the narration and slides):

The slideshow lays out details of the assignment and its purpose:

At the time of the interview and observation, Sam was currently in week two.  I observed her interact with that week's assignment which was the Collaboration Cafe.  She went into week 3 assignments to demonstrate how other material is presented to students.
