Geographic Information Systems

GIS analysis has become increasingly popular over the last two decades.  This field is rapidly growing and has numerous applications.  Analysts are using GIS to assist utility companies in responding to power outages, to help protect against threats for homeland security, to mapping the surface of distant planets that cannot be reached by man.  I firmly believe this quote by the former executive, president, and chair of Hewlett-Packard Co., Carly Firorina, "the goal is to turn data into information, and information into insight."  When data is combined with geospatial information, there is so much insight can be gained.
