I am currently living for six months in Gaborone, Botswana, working full time in the Botswana-Harvard Partnership research lab. A year ago, knowing that I was interested in women's health on a global scale, I read Half the Sky by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. This documentary style book was my call to action to spend my third and final six month internship abroad in the developing world. I told my CaNCURE mentor Dr. Castro about this ambition and he invited me to join the Botswana-Harvard Partnership in their research lab in Gaborone, Botswana. The Center for Systems Biology, where I was a student researcher for ten months, was developing a lymphoma diagnostic project, which I had worked on tangentially and was quite familiar with. The project was ready to transition to Botswana for validation in a clinical setting, and Dr. Castro offered me the position of moving to Botswana to coordiante the projects transition and work on the clinical validation of the technology in the lab. This opportunity was a perfect for me, as it melded my reserarch interests with my desire to volunteer my time in the developing world.

I will continuously update this page throughout my six months here.

Please feel free to follow my personal weekly blog of my time in Botswana!
