Hing Potter, M.Ed. Higher Education Administration Candidate - 2019

Raised on beautiful Whidbey Island, in Washington State, Hing Potter is an Cambodian-American transracial-transnational adoptee student affairs professional. His professional experiences include time in residence life, new student and family programs, student life and enrollment management. He received his Associates of Arts from Edmonds CC, and his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science - International Relations from Boise State University. Currently, Hing is a Student Life Coordinator at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.

 

As part of his professional development, Hing is active in NASPA, Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, and currently is the Conference Chair for the Parent and Family Relations KC. Previously, Hing served as the Region V Representative for the Enrollment Management KC, and on the Region V Advisory Board. Hing has also been a Leadership Coach since 2015 for the Circle of Change Leadership Conference focusing on empowering college student leaders across the country through servant leadership.

 

Outside higher education, Hing believes civic engagement and community service are vital ways in giving back and to be agents fo change. Previously, he has served on the board of directors for the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, Edmonds Young Professionals, and Young Leaders United of United Way Snohomish County. Hing is also a graduate of the Young Professionals Class of Leadership Snohomish County (2017), where he worked with a service learning team to develop and implement strategy for a volunteer program for Snohomish County Music Project. He has also been active in presenting his foundational Social Justice 101 workshop to local community groups advocating for equity, inclusion and diversity in both Seattle and New York City.

 

The definiting moment to pursue a career in higher education stems from Hing's time as a resident assistant, learning from his first mentor about the empowering field of student affairs. Building on his personal passion for elevating others, Hing has been able to use student affairs to encourage students through personal leadership exploration, cultural competency, and voice advocacy.
