For this assignment, we explored cultural communication and diversity through the eyes of Tariq Khan, but then took an introspective turn and assessed what decisions we would make if we were in his shoes.

Before this course, I had worked on diversity initiatives in my career, but only from a planning perspective. I had no real experience working on a diverse team or exploring intercultural communication firsthand. By analyzing my own actions through this assignment, I learned that I actually had been growing intercultural communication skills, particularly verbal patience, without realizing it. Once I became aware, I remember trying to identify intercultural communication skills in others, as well as in my own behavior.

This course was a great foundation to my Projects for Professionals work. Through that consulting project, I worked with a non-native English speaker. I practiced intercultural communication through a variety of communication activities and channels.
