Program Coordinator, La Vida, Inc., Lynn, MA

Preparing low-income youth and their families for economic security by creating first-generation college students.

1. Recruitment – Outreach is conducted to students from public and private schools in the City of Lynn. Recruitment meetings are scheduled at each school with the help of school guidance. Applications are given to interested students who fill out interest cards and a database is established for follow up. 

2. Teaching & Curriculum Development – The LVS curriculum includes workshops for college and career planning such as college preparation, scholarship applications, career exploration, MCAS prep, SAT prep, community service, leadership development. Work closely with the Executive Director to develop, coordinate and teach the curriculum. 

3. College Advising – The students and their parents need individualized advice regarding the road to a higher education. PC and the Director meet weekly with each individual senior. 

4. Campus Visits – Campus visits primarily occur during winter and spring break on Tuesdays and Thursdays involving the sophomore and junior class. PC is responsible to contact colleges to coordinate trips, notify parents, keep track of attendance, and chaperone the trips along with the Director.
