Upon arriving to the site of my student teaching, I was sure to review the rules and regulations that were printed in the school handbook. Also, any time I was uncertain about a particular rule, I was always consulted with cooperating teacher or another professional in the building. (Indicator 1)  I worked to maintain a sense of professionalism. As stated in my teaching philosophy I am a young teacher and have a lot to learn. I made it clear to my supervisor and cooperating teacher that I was always open to constructive criticism as this is the way that we all become better teachers is through response to feedback. (Indicator 4)

Another way that I reached my professional goals was by passing all of the core MTEL's required to teach grades one through six. I also plan on taking the ESL MTEL, a test that will help me to acquire a license in teaching English as a second language. Additionally,  I worked very hard over the past two year to complete all of the course work necesary to attain a license to teach special education, grades pre-k through eight. (Indicator 6)

One of my essential goals in the classroom is to keep up regular communication with the parents. (Indicator 5) This could mean a quick hello or update at the end of the day, or one of several letters that I sent to keep parents informed. When I first came to the classroom, I sent out a letter to parents announcing my arrival introduction.parents.docx. This was a way to greet families and make myself known and available. In order to build school home connections I informed parents when we were begining a new project or long term assignment.  I sent home letters to parents when we began a project where children were asked to create their own family trees letter.to.parents.family.tree.docx. I thought that this would be a valuable way to include parents and keep them infomed about what their children were learning.  Additionally, when we began a big project where children were asked to create travel guides for a particular country, I sent home a letter to parents letting them know about this project. I asked for parents to help their children choose and research countries- something that I thought would again, be a great way include parents in their children's learning.  Lastly, upon completing my last week student teaching, I sent a letter home final.parents.docx informing parents of my departure. This communication was a good way to build relationships with families, something that I also extended by attending events such as the school wide arts show and also international night.

Meeting professional responsibilies in the classroom is at the core of being a good teacher. It is essential to keep up with current theory, politics and news in the field. It is also important to be available to parents and colleagues. Lastly,  it is critical to present yourself as a mature professional who is aware of the responsibilites that go along with teaching and consistently adheres to these ideas and policies.
