Summary
Did you ever play brain games as a kid or teen and think they were actually doing something to improve your mental skills? I certainly did not. As a teenager I played brain games in an application called Lumosity because they were on trend not because I wanted to improve my cognitive skills. However, as an adult today who struggles with memory retention, applications like Lumosity seem much more appealing to utilize for actual cognitive improvement. For this case study, I did not choose Lumosity since I had previous experience with it and instead chose MentalUP. This is the homepage for the online technology.
Mental UP is an online application that helps children and adults improve various cognitive skills of their choice. These skills include memory, attention, problem-solving, logic, visual and verbal skills. It was created in 2015 as a platform to help children utitlize technology and play brain games that would improve their cognitive abilities. As mentioned earlier, adults can use this application as well, but as you can see from the homepage it is very kid friendly. My motivation for picking this application was first, because it was an unknown technology for me so that I would not have familiarity with the application. Second because I wanted to determine if applications like MentalUp do indeed possess the tools to accurately assess and improve and individuals cognitive skills. What do you think?
