Organizational Communication Assessment

Organizational Communication Assessment was a vital part of my education, as it taught me how to measure the effectiveness of my communication efforts and initiatives and use that data to inform future iterations of each project. In particular, Katie Payne's 7 steps for measuring communications (found in her book Measure What Matters) are a concrete guide for each project to ensure that the efforts are reaching each audience successfully and that they are worth the investment.

Establishing communication objectives and corresponding key performance indicators (KPIs) before embarking on a communications project is essential. For the final project in this course, I studied the metrics for Berklee's internal newsletters (for students, faculty, and staff) to assess whether the newsletters accomplish their goals of raising awareness about institutional priorities and big initiatives, increasing event attendance, and increasing employee engagement. By studying the open rates and clicks for the newsletters over the past five years, and studying the interaction with specific news items in two recent newsletters, I concluded that Berklee was effectively achieving these goals through the newsletters, and made recommendations for next steps.
