Crisis Communication

Crisis Communication was a very valuable course, delving into different techniques for dealing with a crisis, all illustrated through a variety of case studies – including some companies that successfully survived a crisis and others that suffered greatly due to their missteps.

For the final project, I studied Upper Crust Pizzeria, a national pizza company that had a series of crises triggered by poor treatment of workers. The Boston Globe did multiple exposes on the company, which picked up serious traction and eventually led to the company's bankruptcy. Unlike other companies that have weathered a crisis successfully, Upper Crust never issued an authentic apology or took serious action to show that it was committed to changing its ways.
