Digital Signage

Before 2017, Berklee College of Music had a completely decentralized digital signage system, in which a handful of departments had purchased TVs and used Mac Minis to project slide decks with information. There were no guidelines or best practices, and most departments often forgot to update their slides and left their screens blank or just posted personal photo slideshows. Berklee needed a better system that would leverage key areas to improve internal communications by pushing information to students wherever they were.

I led an effort to launch a unified professional digital signage product across Berklee's Boston campus and managed the project launch from start to finish:

  • identifying funding sources across the college;
  • working with the facilities department to identify potential locations and get approval to install new TVs in highly visible locations;
  • managing a team of colleagues in IT networking and support to launch and maintain the hardware and software;
  • training about 50 colleagues to use the software;
  • managing the relationship with the software vendor, including addressing bugs, developing new templates, etc; and
  • establishing best practices and guidelines for a consistent user experience.

The college now has about 35 screens installed in highly visible locations and has increased students' awareness of opportunities and events.
