This is how we dream

In this video Richard Miller talks about the advantages that technology offers us. We have now the capability of communicating instantly and globally. Miller explains the impact of technology in reading and writing. Technology has revolutionized both realities.

One of the strongest points of being able to work online is that now documents are always available and when someone takes them out they will still be there. Another really positive aspect is that thanks to technology doing research has become much easier and fast. However, it is important to pay close attention to where the sources come from and it’s essential to learn to identify the reliable ones. This is one of the most relevant drawbacks of composing in the web and with what it is in the web: we become less demanding with the reliability of the information found. Moreover, in This is How We Dream, Richard Miller explains that technology enables us to collaborate using the snet working technology not simply with text but also with images and other types of media. I really liked the examples he uses to illustrate his point. Miller shows some pieces of work which are the result of combining all type of different media: text, videos, music, pictures… I feel strongly identify with Miller in regard to his fascination about this new world of technology. I see this new capability we have to compose with all different types of media a new way of creating art. Another argument Miller uses in his presentation to explain the power of working online is that we are now able to not only look at the material and use it but we can also get behind it and see how it is put together. Furthermore, we can produce alternative versions, alternative stories and distribute that information globally and freely. Miller ends his presentation with the idea of technology as the tool to articulate our dreams and share them with others.

In short, with this video Miller demonstrates that thanks to the new technology world, writing has changed dramatically. But  he is talking about an Incremental change not a fundamental one. We now transmit ideas in a completely different way and we have much more tools to make an impact in our audience. I agree with Miller that it would be a pity to not take advantage of this.
